$30 million Johnson

News just in from the Fox Searchlight Blog - Johnson Family Vacation crossed the $30 million mark this past weekend, putting it on track to become the fourth highest grossing film in Fox Searchlight history! Always great to be a part of a successful campaign. Kudos to the FSL team!

In related news: 62,677 (and counting) viral recipients have played JFV's "Lemonade Toss".

Hollywood Records

We just launched another badass site for Hollywood Records artist, Breaking Benjamin. This comes right on the heels of the site we did for L.A. legends, Los Lobos. They did a live set on KCRW last Monday you can hear here. Both are sweet sites and they show what we can do with a tight budget.

Our relationship with Hollywood Records goes back to April, 2000 when Real Pie was basically... me. Actually, further back when you consider Holly's work at DOL. One of our first entertainment clients, they hired me to create several Shockwave Singles - the Flash music videos that were all the rage at FlashForward2000. I've lost track of how many projects we've worked on with Ken and David over the years, but I've enjoyed each one. You'll never meet two nicer, smarter, more straight-shooting guys in this business.

Besides the websites, we also crank out Hollywood Records enhanced CDs. So let me apologize upfront for when you "just want to hear the damn music" on your PC. Traffic-driving opportunity. I'm sure you understand.

New Toy

xl1If it's good enough for Soderbergh, it's good enough for Real Pie. As video-in-Flash becomes more of a must-have in entertainment websites, we are called upon more and more to shoot original content. Cast and crew are now more inclined to participate in the marketing efforts online and in some situations, it makes more sense to let us get exactly what we need ourselves. With professional experience in front of and behind the camera, Real Pie is ready to provide our clients with this service.

And now more than ever with our new Canon XL1S DV camcorder. DV is DV, but this is the Porsche of camcorders. Us geeks are in A/V heaven. Just another weapon in our tech-arsenal that helps us deliver the best product for our clients.

Welcome Erin

Please join me in welcoming Erin Bilovsky to the Real Pie family. This is her second week as our new Production Coordinator and we couldn't be happier. She can hand-code HTML and knows many famous people! What more could you want? Seriously, our clients will appreciate her detailed approach and professionalism. Welcome, Erin!

Real Pie Now Blogging

Here it is, the very first Real Pie Media blog entry. I'm darned excited about it. If you're reading this, I know you are too. It never ceases to amaze me how the information superhighway continues to bring people together. You're excited. I'm excited. Together.

Why on earth does a new media design studio like Real Pie need a blog? We don't. But our clients do, and we need a place to test out the cool stuff. The next posting you'll see will be a picture from our studio taken with a mobile smartphone camera, and beamed up to this blog. Cool stuff like that. More and more, our clients in the entertainment industry need to connect with audiences directly, through the latest communication technologies. We're here to help them do just that.

In the days to come, I'll be posting news, announcements, site launches, new projects we're excited about, the extracurricular activities of all the talented folks here, and more. I hope you'll stay tuned... and excited.
